Children’s textiles: material, size and care

Moi Mili Gold Candy patchwork play mat

Choose textiles for their stated use. A play mat, decorative cushion and bedding can use similar fabrics but serve different purposes and have different instructions.

Start with measurements

Compare actual dimensions in bedding and baby textiles with the item they must fit. Baby and junior labels do not establish one universal size across suppliers.

In cushions and covers, check whether filling is included. A photographed tent mat is included only if the package description confirms it.

Material does not determine every care requirement

Cotton in a name does not establish a washing temperature for the entire product. Filling, seams, colours and other materials can affect care. Read each item’s instructions even when two products from one brand look similar.

Compare wiping, hand washing or machine washing, drying and removable covers. Choose a routine you can actually follow rather than assuming all textiles can be washed together.

Separate floor play and sleep

A play mat should be used as described, not automatically as a mattress or a fall surface. Decorative cushions and canopies do not establish a suitable infant sleeping environment.

For infant sleep, read the Danish Health Authority’s guidance. This guide does not document claims that a baby nest prevents cot death or improves sleep.
